Publishing Kindle Books – Free And Easy

Have you ever thought about publishing your own book? Maybe you’ve had the next great American novel tucked away in your desk drawer for years. Maybe you have a collection of poetry – or maybe you would like to publish the life story of a relative of yours.

If any of the above strikes chord, then you may be happy to learn that, not only are you far from alone, but that the options open to you are increasing all the time. It’s easier than ever before to publish your work. Not only is it easier, but it is cheaper – and in some cases it is free. In fact, you can even make money if your book sells.

Amazon for example, are a company who, apart from being very successful, have a strong Association with both books and reading. When the original Amazon website launched in 1995, the manner in which many people bought books changed forever.

When Amazon launched the Kindle reader in 2007 the way that people read books began to change as well. The subsequent release of the updated Kindle two and the large display Kindle DX in 2009 saw e-book readers become firmly established and, although still relatively new, the market for both e-book readers and e-books really took off.

Apart from the fact that the Kindle was an excellent, well designed piece of hardware, which satisfied customer needs, one of the important features in its success was the large amount of Kindle books available for readers to choose from. There are currently well over 400,000 titles on offer – and this is growing by, on average 500 titles daily.

As well as changing the way that books are bought, delivered and read, the Kindle offers the opportunity for would-be authors to publish their work and have it showcased and sold by the world’s largest book seller. Publishing your book in Kindle format is simple, fast and free. What’s more – as long as you set the price of your book at between $ 1 and $9.99 Amazon will give you 70% of the sales price (minus a very small delivery fee – definitely no more than a few cents) for any sales made.

In order to publish a Kindle book, you need an Amazon account. This is free, in fact, if you’ve ever bought something from Amazon, you already have one. Then it’s simply a matter of formatting your book and uploading it to the Amazon website. One very easy way to do this is to write it in Microsoft Word and then save it as an HTML file (you’ll find this option when you choose “save as”). Other methods exist, but the Word option is one of the easiest. It’s a good idea to choose a suitable cover illustration as well – this will make your book more appealing. Again this is a simple case of uploading your selected image to the Amazon site. After that, all you have to do is fill in a few fields, choose a title and take your selling price and you will be a published author!

More Options For Authors With The Amazon Kindle

In 1994 Jeff Bezos founded Amazon, the online retail giant. Shortly afterwards, in 1995, Amazon’s original website went live. Amazon is now one of the most recognisable and trusted brands in the world – it’s an extremely successful and profitable business. So it’s easy to forget just what an innovative idea buying books on the web and then having them delivered by mail was back then. Many investors and industry analysts predicted that Amazon would struggle, or even fail, during its early years. It wasn’t until the back end of 2001, six years after going live, that Amazon reported a profit for the first time.

After modifying the way that many people bought books, Amazon quickly diversified into other areas. Video, music CDs, toys, consumer electronics and computer software are just some examples of the types of items which Amazon added to their list of product offerings. At the moment you can find virtually any consumer product that you can imagine on Amazon’s website – even your groceries if you like.

As well as adding to their product range, Amazon launched websites in France, the UK, Germany, Canada and China. However, they retained their original passion for books and they continued to have a very powerful association with books in the view of the public.

This strong link with books would serve them well in November 2007 when they launched the original Kindle e-book reader. Having already changed the method of buying books, Amazon was now altering the way that the books were read. The Kindle attracted a great deal of publicity and it’s reasonable to suggest that the e-book reader market took off exponentially when Amazon released their updated and enhanced Kindle 2.0 in February of 2009.

In June of the same year, Amazon followed up with the large format Kindle DX. This sported a larger e-ink display screen and was aimed at readers of magazines, newspapers and academic textbooks. Much of the buzz surrounding the DX was generated by the normally conservative world of academic publishing.

So, the manner in which books are bought, delivered and read have all been radically modified in a relatively short time frame. The last piece of the reading jigsaw – publishing – is also likely to change in the near future. Any major publisher will almost certainly require to publish an e-book version of any new editions in future. The well established process of hardback publication, followed a few months later by the paperback version will be altered by the insertion of an e-book version at the front end of the cycle.

Considering the fact that publishing e-books costs very much less than a conventional print run, it could be that publishers are more inclined to publish lesser known authors in the future. Perhaps more authors may decide to take more control by self publishing in future. At the moment, anyone who has an Amazon account and can operate Microsoft Word, for example, can publish a Kindle book for free (and receive a 70% share of the sales price). Amazon, this time using e-book readers as a vehicle, continues to make big changes in the world of books.

Will Amazon Continue To Lead The E-Book Reader Market?

The Amazon Kindle e-book reader has clearly secured a market leadership position for itself. It has a 60% share of America’s growing e-book reader market – Sony’s PRS reader trails in second place with a 35% share – and both the Kindle 2.0 and its larger sibling, the DX, are now being sold worldwide. The fact that every new e-book reader which is unveiled is dubbed the “Kindle Killer” only serves to confirm that, not only is the Kindle the dominant market player, it is the standard which any new competing readers will be measured against.

Due to the fact that the Kindle is so dominant at the moment, it’s easy to forget that it is, in fact, a very recent entrant to the e-book reader market. Franklin’s eBookman, widely considered to have been the original dedicated e-book reader, was launched in 1999 – more than ten years ago. Sony launched their PRS reader in 2006. It wasn’t till November 2007 that Amazon’s original Kindle reader was released. The upgraded and enhanced Kindle 2.0 came out in February of 2009 with the DX model following in June that same year.

In the meantime, Amazon’s competition have been busy. The Sony Daily Edition reader was launched as was the Nook reader from Barnes and Noble. Even the new iPad from Apple is perceived by many to be a threat to the Kindle. There are plenty of other new e-book readers available and the newer ones incorporate features which are lacking from the current Kindle – touch screen controls, color screen etc.

How will Amazon respond? Thus far, apart from some firmware updates, Amazon’s main response to higher levels of competition has been to cut the price of the Kindle 2.0 by $ 100 to $ 259. However, there are rumors aplenty that the next Kindle version will be released in the first six months of 2010. Which prompts the question – what enhancements will the new Kindle incorporate?

One of the reasons why the Kindle is so successful is that it provides a great user experience. It’s easy to use with one hand, the controls are very good and the display is excellent in a variety of different ambient lighting conditions. It would almost be a shame were Amazon to follow the example of the Sony Daily Edition and introduce touch screen controls. If all you want to do is read books then this probably isn’t a big step forward. If anything, it makes one handed operation more difficult. It also requires a slightly more reflective screen which will under perform in certain lighting.

The introduction of color would certainly be a step forward but, were it to be achieved in a similar manner to Barnes and Noble’s Nook – which features color navigation only with the main reader screen still in monochrome – it would be pretty pointless. Reading black text on a white background is probably normal for around 90% of books – so although color would be nice, it’s not going to be a high priority for many readers.

What Amazon may decide to do, and what they have done better than all of their competitors to date, is to provide a superior user experience. Instead of concentrating on gimmicky hardware enhancements, Amazon may decide to introduce options which will be genuinely useful for their customers. Faster page turns with less screen flicker and prolonged battery life may be enhancements which users would find desirable. Similarly, greater choice of e-books, quicker downloads and the potential to share Kindle books may be more important to some users than major hardware mods.

Amazon’s ability to satisfy the requirements of its customers has helped it achieve the current leadership position. It’s no surprise that Amazon understands what people who read books want and are willing to pay for. The Kindle is now their top selling product and, up to now, they have not only led the market but shaped it and helped it to develop. The next generation Kindle will clearly signal the way in which the e-book reader market is going to develop in future. On the balance of probabilities, it seems likely that Amazon will be a major force in the e-book reader market for the foreseeable future.

Book Market Innovation From Amazon

Amazon is the world’s largest book seller. It is also the biggest online retailer in the USA. The company was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and now has separate websites in France, Germany, the UK, China and Canada. It is, to put it mildly, an extremely successful business.

Considering its current level of success, it’s easy to forget just what an innovative idea buying books online and having them delivered by mail was at the time. Many investors and business analysts predicted trouble for Amazon during its formative years – and it was not until the end of 2001 that Amazon eventually made a profit.

Having changed the way that a lot of people bought books, Amazon quickly diversified into music CDs, video, consumer electronics and computer software – among other things. Today there aren’t many consumer items that you can’t get online from Amazon. You can even buy your groceries from them should you wish.

Although Amazon now have an enormous range of products on offer, there is still a very strong association with books. The company is clearly very passionate about books – so when the original Kindle e-book reader was launched in November of 2007, it was immediately obvious that this was the ideal product for Amazon – it fitted right in with their business model.

Today, it’s easy to overlook the fact that the Kindle was far from the first e-book reader. In 1999, over a decade ago, Franklin had released the eBookman – widely regarded as the first dedicated e-book reader. Sony’s PRS reader also got a head start on the Kindle when it launched in 2006. Even so, Amazon don’t seem to have suffered greatly as a result of not being first to market. Due to their association with books, trust in the Amazon brand and the fact that there was a good, and ever growing, selection of Kindle books to choose from, the Kindle quickly overhauled its competitors. The launch of the enhanced Kindle 2.0 in February of 2009, quickly followed by the DX model in June of the same year, solidified Amazon’s leading position yet further. The Kindle became Amazon’s top selling product and, during the 2009 festive season, it became Amazon’s “most gifted” product ever.

At this time, the Kindle is still the leader of the pack in the e-book reader market – but competition is increasing at a rapid rate. Other e-book readers with color screens and touch screen controls are available. After only a few short months, the Kindle is starting to look just a little bit dated. Of course, analysing the e-book reader market purely in terms of the hardware capability is not valid.

The fact of the matter is that Amazon, probably more than any other company today, know what the people who read a lot of books – their best customers in other words – want. That’s the reason why Amazon’s dominance of the e-book reader market is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. Bear in mind, this is hardly the first revolution in reading that Amazon have initiated – they have the experience, the pedigree and the wherewithal.

Classic E-Books To Be Made Available Free For Kindle Users

Commencing in spring 2010, the British Library will make more than 65,000 19th century classic books available in free e-book format. The e-books will have the look of a first edition and will include works by authors such as Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen as well as some lesser known authors. The first edition look will be achieved by using the original type face and including original illustrations and art work where appropriate.

Dame Lynne Brindley, the British Library’s Chief Executive, said that making 19th century fiction available at no charge would open up a new global readership for some forgotten literary gems. Around 25 million digitized pages will be made available.

Over the past three years the British Library has worked with Microsoft to digitally store text and images from works which are out of copyright. Special “Turning The Pages” software, which Microsoft helped to develop, allows users to access rare books and manuscripts from authors such as Lewis Carroll, Mozart and Leonardo da Vinci. In addition to viewing a visual representation of a page turning, readers can zoom in to a page, change the orientation and view details of illustrations.

Every work of literature published in the UK has at least one copy held in the British Library. Of the 19th century works, around 40% are not available in any other library.

The announcement is the latest stage in an ongoing digitizing project which has already made more than two million pages from 19th century British newspapers available. The project is scheduled to electronically store a further 50 million items by 2020. Scanning of 20th century out of copyright books is scheduled to begin in the near future – but funding is still being sought for this part of the project.

For readers who prefer something more conventional, printed copies of the books with the same “first edition” look of the originals will be on sale from Amazon’s website. Prices are estimated at $ 23 (15). An original by Dickens or Austen in good condition would cost around $ 400, and could be considerably more depending upon the title and demand.

Digital Book Publishers Should Be Concerned

It is a well-known fact that the music and movie industry faces plagues because of digital piracy. From the time that the MP3s were launched, it has been quite easy to get music by just going online and downloading it without paying a penny for it.

When people decide to get the free music at a torrent website or a file sharing platform, the end result is less sales for so many artists. It’s the same with the movie industry as the movies get recorded first by movie pirates before they are uploaded to platforms for file sharing.

In recent times, e-books are now being shared by this same method and the problem continues to grow. This came about suddenly and quickly.

As books take on digital form, one can easily access these books by visiting a torrent or file sharing site, illegally downloading these works free of charge.

Much of this has to do with the fact that popular digital mediums like the Kindle and tablet PCs enable the proliferation of books via digital means.

The publishing industry could be dealt a pretty bad blow by this activity; thus, folks should definitely stop and think about how illegal this is and what could happen.

The fact is that writers can take the time for the research and writing since they believe the end result will be great sales. If that industry gets a major blow, our world just might have way less writing that is high quality.

It is my belief that almost all of us do realize that we would surely be in a bad position if that should occur, so the best thing to do is to stop this illegal activity if you are doing it.

The sales of e-books skyrocketed above $37 million in the second quarter of 2009, which ultimately means that the regulators are going to be forced to deal with this issue since the use of e-books will likely keep growing.

Aside from books, the author additionally regularly articles on metal storage shelves and glass display shelf deals.

There are ribbons that are so simple to earn like ribbons for plowing or harvesting various types of crops, or spending your farm cash at the market. But the bonuses that come when you gain these ribbons are not tiny, so you can actually make these gaining ribbons a primacy, thus earn big time bonus. This is a lot simpler than it sounds, and acceptably deserving with little measure of effort it needs.

Aiming at Your Activities

Naturally, if you are aiming at earning more ribbons, you have to know what to do and how to obtain them. This is easy to uncover since you only need to click the ribbon icon which is located below the screen. Because you only have a limited amount of space to devote to your crops, it’s best if you focus on one of these achievements first, and then shift to the other. Trying to split your resources between the two will only make it harder for you to accomplish both of them.

Some separate ribbons are complimentary, however. For example, you can earn ribbons by spending money in the market, and you can also earn ribbons by owning a certain number of decorations. Since you have to spend money in the store to accumulate these decorations, you can work towards both of these ribbons simultaneously.

A Winning Layout

Your farm arrangement or layout can make you earn more ribbons speedily. For Example, if your goal is to aim for some ribbons that are relevant to planting and harvesting crops, your farm space must be maximized to plowed field. After you are done with it and have accomplished your goal, you can modify your layout to indicate your new objectives. You may not want to remove all your plowed fields, but you can at least get enough space to arrange your new goals and accomplish it in no time.

Sharing in the Wealth

Since you can contribute your wealth with your neighbors whenever you gain ribbons, you must make sure to make use of all the bonuses you can benefit when your neighbors gather their ribbons too.
